Staffer or Freelance?

I came to hate being a staffer. All this monotonous work at the appointed time, without the possibility of relaxing in front of a TV with a plateful of sweet fresh cookies, or nestling on the sofa when you're tired.
Freelancing might be a smart solution. You earn money without leaving your cosy home and you do it in most comfortable conditions. I am at a loss, however, i think it's risky to leave your permament job, the more so because i enjoy lots of benefits and privileges there. I even have our company's credit card.
On the other hand, I take stress too often there.
Hey, people, who can say for sure, what's better - working for yourself but without a perspective of promotion or having a permament promising post but undergo frequent stress for that?
